The United Methodist Church in Osterville has hired a new Director of Music, Daniel Shinabarger! He’ll start working with us in January 2022, and his first Sunday will be January 9.
Daniel Shinabarger is 31 years old, and has lived in the Boston area on and off since 2014, where he attended Berklee College of Music. Since then he has been working full time as a live musician in the area, playing for restaurants, private parties, church, and other events, and writing and performing original songs. He primarily plays piano and sings, but also plays guitar, drums, bass, and saxophone. Since 2015, Daniel has been the music director at our sister church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Reading MA.
Prior to moving to Massachusetts, Daniel grew up in the midwest, living in the thumb of Michigan, and the northwest suburbs of Chicago. He grew up playing for and directing church music in the midwest, playing in bands, and was heavily involved in several youth groups. Besides music, Daniel is a dedicated and avid tabletop board gamer and designer, and likes to spend time on generally nerdy things on the computer. During the pandemic he spent time dabbling in illustration, game design, programming, and graphic design, and loves to solve problems and try new things.
Daniel is looking forward to sinking his teeth into the new church job, and settling in somewhere south of Boston, and to grow with the church as we continue navigating uncertain times.
We welcome Daniel with open arms!
