Beautiful Beloveds,
How are you? Really, how is your heart, your mind, your soul? As we gather virtually and in person for worship tomorrow, we pause to remember who and whose we are, and the promises of our faith. If you tune in to our virtual worship, you’ll hear some familiar voices sharing meaningful songs and scripture. Whether you join us virtually or in our parking lot, we’ll remember in song, scripture, and prayer, whatever outer circumstance we may face pandemic of virus or racism, elections, fears and tribulations, we are held in God’s grace.
Peace,
Heather

Food for Thought: “Let’s Talk”
Maybe it’s more about giving each other the space to express ourselves, and really listen to each other, than deciding who’s right and who’s wrong. A space for anger, frustration, fear, discomfort, honesty, love, compassion, understanding and acceptance. It’s not just about supporting those of us who have been marginalized, discriminated against, and oppressed. Although it is that too! It’s about opening up the conversation and exploring the why and how we can be more inclusive, more compassionate. When we talk openly and honestly without fear of rejection, we can speak the truth and heal. I believe letting our church community and our Cape community know that we do support BLM and our LGBTQ brothers and sisters we become closer as a community and open up the space for more growth and awareness. But it starts with open conversations. I hope you can join us at one of our discussions so your voice can be heard!
With Love, Mary Ellen Nelson
Invitation to Prayer
For the next 20 days, Bread for the World members will unite in prayer for our country, world, elected officials, and for all God’s beloved children who experience hunger and poverty, intensified by the two pandemics of COVID-19 and racism.
You are invited to join in this period of prayer. Subscribe to Prayers to End Hunger to receive a prayer every Friday over the next 20 days. If you subscribe, you will also receive a prayer each Friday during Advent. Prayers to End Hunger will resume its regular schedule of one prayer every two weeks after Christmas.
Please join in lifting this prayer:
O God,
You are our refuge and strength, especially in times of tumult and uncertainty. We give thanks for the opportunity to lift our voices in another election even as the outcomes are unclear and votes continue to be counted.
Help us to set aside our anxieties and assumptions about the future and to rest in your promise of a future with hope.
Inspire in us a spirit of unity so that we might renew our commitment to working together across our differences to heal the hurt and division in our country.
In that spirit of unity, inspire us to follow in the loving footsteps of your son, Jesus Christ, as we work to end the hunger and poverty that millions of Americans and people around the world continue to endure. May our advocacy inspire in our elected leaders, both incoming and outgoing, a resolve to end this hunger and poverty once and for all.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Let’s Learn Together: Reading the Gospel of Matthew
Join us as we read, wrestle with and study God’s word. We’re working our way through Matthew both Wednesday evenings at 5pm at the church, or Thursday mornings via Zoom. It’s not too late to join in. We’re right in the middle of the encouraging, challenging, provoking, and inspirational Sermon on the Mount (Matthew ch 5-7). Join us next week to see what Jesus says next!
Who are the United Methodist Women?
United Methodist Women is the continuation of many predecessor Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren women organizations. It has grown and changed as the church and world have changed, but the women’s work stays organized for mission, education, faith-driven service, leadership and spiritual growth. It is and has been a supportive and creative fellowship and will be for years to come.
Committed to Serve—We are making a difference
Thank You Generous UMC, Osterville Church Family!
A HUGE THANKS for donating over 15 bags full of Thanksgiving foods last month, which were delivered to the Salvation Army and the Vietnam Veterans! Thank you also for generously providing many, many blankets and sweatshirts to help keep our homeless neighbors (who are sleeping outdoors in tents) warm this fall and winter.
Food Collection for November: We are collecting non-perishable healthy foods that kids really like such as: mac & cheese, raisins, popcorn, goldfish crackers, peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, graham crackers, pudding, Nutella & go snacks, tuna fish, etc. Please leave your items in the food pantry ‘trash can’ in front of the church. Watch for BOGO specials in grocery stores when you are shopping.
Dress A Live Doll Program: It is time to be thinking of Christmas. And what better way than to take part in the Dress A Live Doll program with The Hyannis Salvation Army. Sponsor a child and provide them with new clothes and a toy. In addition, they will be needing grocery gift cards to provide Christmas meals for families in need. You can have fun playing Santa Clause! Interested? Call Kim Riley at 508-775-0364 today at The Salvation Army office. Alternately, call Donna Kahelin president of UMW in Osterville at 774-238-1815 to find out more about this needed service.
Coming soon!! In addition to all the Calendars, notes, and Christmas cards, we will be offering pies, cookies, and many other Holiday fair items including wreaths, trees, table decorations and many other fair goodies online at SHOP UMC. Look out for an update later today.
Please continue to submit pledges via our online giving portal, and through the mail. Your generosity is supporting meaningful mission and ministry in our community!
Green Tip: Make cloth your friend
Stanford University reported that Americans alone throw away 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s than any other time of year. This year use cloth: Cloth napkins, cloth gift wrap, reusable cloth face masks at group events. Not only is it ecofriendly, but it is also cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing. You will find yourself taking out the trash less often and spending less when preparing for holiday gatherings. (from brian@climatecaretakers.org)
