Patty Kilmain is searching for a new place to live. She would like to find a stand-alone residence which is a studio or one bedroom unit. One floor would be ideal. Anywhere in the town of Barnstable and its villages would be great. If you know of anyone with a guest house or in-law apt. that might be available on a year-round basis, please give Patty a call 617-894-4858.
Are you in need of architectural design or landscape design advice from an established designer? During the period of September 15 to November 5, Sonja Sheasleys’ friend Thomas Allocca would like to offer complimentary consultations and design guidance to any members of the church community. His objective is to establish connections within the USA (he is based in Italy) as he is currently broadening his business presence within the United States, and specifically in New England. Committed to Serve—You are Making a Difference
Listen to Jack Cotton’s “I make an Eternal Difference” presentation two Sunday’s ago at the 10 am service. He challenged us to do three things: Imagine what it will be like for you to make an eternal difference in this church campus, Pray about what it will be like to make an eternal difference here, Listen to the details of what even a minor contribution from your estate plan to this church can do to make a difference.
Our Endowment Fund was established during the ministry of Pastor Blaine Taylor, our current Pastor’s father, and has benefited our church many times over in the years since.
We sit in an air-conditioned sanctuary thanks to the Fund. We added our beautiful solarium, the elevator, the balcony, additional space in our sanctuary, a choir room and so much more. We have put two roofs on the church and repaired our organ. We used the funds to enhance our audio-visual experience including the streaming of our services that those who cannot be present for worship can enjoy.
We have brochures and much more information to share. Please call Dick Weir at, 774-487-1450 or email him at grichweir@gmail.com for more info.
We have four wonderful gifts to celebrate. Your Board of Trustees has been busy, with the help of the Lend a Hand group, making needed repairs and beautifying the church and our three other buildings. Our solarium carpet needed a deep cleaning. Rebecca and John Mincieli arranged for a professional service to do the cleaning and they covered the cost. We needed repairs to the irrigation system at the Annex so we could keep the lawn from turning to dust. Carl and Sharron Riedell paid for those repairs. Our Rainbow’s End building was badly in need of a new roof. Jack Cotton made arrangements with a contractor for a greatly reduced price and donated half the cost. Our church shutters have never been painted and are looking quite dingy. An anonymous donor came forward to cover the entire cost of the job to paint all our shutters. God is at work through our generous members to help us make our church a welcoming, well cared for (see the love) place for people to gather, worship and serve. Thanks!
Altar Flowers. If you would like to donate flowers for the altar, please sign up on the bulletin board by the restroom in the solarium and fill out a form for Jane and leave it on her desk. The arrangements are $50.00. You may leave a check with your order or drop one off when convenient.
Holiday Fair News, Happenings and Functions
Items & Ideas for Holiday Gift Baskets. Please bring in gift basket items and gift cards. There is a large basket on the table in the solarium for you to donate items. Our dedicated team will fill and wrap the baskets from now until November at our Annex.
Used Jewelry: Any old costume jewelry that you no longer wear would be great for the fair. Leave it in the box on the table in the Solarium.
We want Your Help with the Holiday Fair! Any kind of Crafting – Painting, Sewing, Woodworking, Wreath and Tree Decorating, etc. Come to the Annex on Thursdays after 11:30 am or call Sharon Kaczmarczyk 774-313-0199.
We are planning to republish our church cookbook. Do you have some favorite holiday recipes you would like to share with us so we can add? Email to the office@umcchurches.org.
Take a look at the photographs that you have taken this year and send us some that you think might be good for the church calendar or note cards. You may text or email them to Jane Gray 508-273-6447 or office@umcchurches.org.
Outreach Collection for August: Thank you so much Church Family for the Breakfast Foods you generously donated in July! For this month let’s CHANGE KIDS’ KICKOFFS BACK TO SCHOOL by donating new backpacks and other much needed new school supplies for local students whose families do not have the means to outfit them! Please capture a photo of the list of desired items from the poster above the Food Pantry Cupboard in the Solarium for when you go shopping. A Million Thanks for Your Continued Support!
We are collecting cell phones that you are no longer using. They need to be data free and will be donated to the Independence House in Hyannis. Woman and children, that are the victims of domestic abuse, are housed there. The phones are still able to dial 911 in an emergency. There will be a basket in the solarium clearly labeled where they can be placed. If you also have extra chargers, they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for helping our neighbors to stay safe. If you have any questions, you can call Patty Kilmain 617-894-4858
Change for Change A glass bottle for your change is near the food table in the solarium. The United Women in Faith (UMW) have put it there to collect money to ultimately aid local women and children. UWF Treasurer, Donna Bodley will take care of this change bottle weekly and we thank you for your donations.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting in the parlor the 1st Sunday of each month between services from 9:30 – 10:00.
Miracle Kitchen needs help in preparing sandwiches, salads and desserts for the luncheon we do each month. If you can help, please call Patty Kilmain 617-894-4858.
Seeking Greeters and Ushers: Anyone interested in speaking, greeting or ushering, please give Mary Ann Farley a call. (774) 487-0719. If you are interested in singing in our choir group, please call Daniel Shinabarger at 857-919-023
Rainbow’s End News: Please do not leave Donations at the shop when it is Closed. You may drop off your donations Wednesday thru Friday 11 am till 2 pm. Come volunteer at the shop. Volunteers help customers find items, price clothing and items for sale, and get first pick of all the beautiful and unique things that are donated for sale. Speak to Pamela at the shop if you are interested or send an email to Jane in our church office. office@umcchurches.org.
