We are being told repeatedly that we are experiencing a climate emergency. According to Dictionary.com the 2019 word of the year is existential. The word “inspires us to ask big questions about who we are and what our purpose is in the face of our various challenges— and it reminds us that we can make choices about our lives in how we answer these questions.” As God’s people who honor the beautiful earth we can decide how to respond to this crisis. We can stand up for reducing pollution, increasing support for 100% renewable clean energy from solar and wind, and equitable carbon taxes that don’t cause more harm to marginalized residents. Consider signing a New Year’s Resolution Petition that will go to state decision makers in early 2020 to show the depth of support for climate action in the state. UMass Action’s goal is to get over 2000 signatures to ring in the new decade! Sign the New Year’s Resolution and commit to actively participating in helping to pass meaningful climate legislation in 2020.
