Greetings Church,
Pentecost is drawing near, one of the high holy days of our tradition, where we celebrate the birth of the Church. Pentecost is the day when the Holy Spirit blew in such a way the disciples were empowered, driven to take the good news of Jesus out to the world. To mark this very special day, this Sunday our Bishop and Cabinet have prepared an on-line worship celebration. We will post it on Sunday morning, so that we can worship as one, from our separate homes.
I would love to tell that we too will be driven from our homes back to corporate worship, but it will be a while yet. Our leadership team is working now to draft a clear plan for our safe, slow return to our building and property. We will be using the guidelines from our conference and our civic authorities. We will err on the side of safety for all.
For now, we continue to worship from afar, out of love for another. We continue to gather virtually for prayer and committee meetings. We continue to serve our neighbors by supporting the Hero for a Hero fund, offering snacks and meals to front line workers. We remain Together in Christ…Committed to Serve.
Peace,
Heather
As United Methodists we promise to support the church, the body of Christ, with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
Here are some ways you might live into those promises, this week:
Prayers:
Please pray for:
-Doris Crocker, now home from the hospital awaiting test results, and her husband Dave.
-Patty Kilmain, who is seeking new housing, that she might find the right place, and quickly
-Sue Wiper’s son, Jimmy, whose Mother-in-Law died on May 15th. Please pray for Jimmy, his wife Laura, and her father Bill, and all who grieve.
-All grandparents who are missing seeing and hugging their grand children
Please submit prayer requests to Pastor Heather, pastorheather@umcchurches.org and 774.994.3645.
Presence (even if we cannot be physically together, we can connect)
Do you need someone to talk to, or someone to pray with/for you? Pastoral Care doesn’t have to be in case of emergency or crisis. Rather it’s simply an opportunity to share what’s going on in your life (good, bad, or uncertain) and pray together. It can be as informal as a text, “please pray for…” or a phone call. Please don’t assume I’m too busy. Hearing your stories, praying with you, is absolutely my job, and it’s an honor to do it. I’m available by phone and text (774.994.3645), email (pastorheather@umcchurches.org) and zoom. –Pastor Heather
3pm – Wednesday Afternoon Check-in: Notice the good and share prayer concerns too.

Witness
Telling the Stories of our Past
Mike Meyer from Emerald Isle, North Carolina is writing a biography on the life of Kenneth Steigler, pastor of the Marstons Mills Methodist Church in 1964-1967, and then Marston Mills/Osterville when the churches combined in 1968. He’s looking for people who remember Ken and would like to contribute to his project. While pastor at the church, he joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma in 1965 during the Civil Rights movement. Please let Pastor Heather know, if you have stories to share, so that she can connect you with Mike.
Invite someone to connect
Is there someone you miss seeing? Invite them to one of our Zoom gatherings.
Is there someone who needs good news? Share one of John Greene’s weekly devotionals.
