As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:12-15 (NRSV)
Beautiful Beloveds,
As I write this, the results of the election are unknown. Perhaps, as you read this, the results are still unknown. Countless experts and amateurs will try to predict what the election will bring, what tomorrow will bring, what next year will bring. I don’t know. I trust.
I trust God is with us, whomever the American people elect. God is with those who grieve, and those who celebrate. God is with those who are numbed by the state of the world. God is with those who are frazzled and frustrated, exhausted or exhilarated. God is with us. Whatever you are feeling, I’m here to listen, to hear your joy, sorrow, frustration, and hope.
Today is not our only day to choose our future as a nation. Whatever happens on Tuesday, when we wake on Wednesday let us choose kindness: to one another, to our neighbors, to those who vote differently, and to ourselves. Let us choose gentleness, compassion, and empathy. Today and tomorrow, let us choose love, and every day thereafter.
Peace,
Heather
