Dear ones,
I miss you and pray for you daily. I pray for an end to this virus and uncertainty, and a return to life together. A small leadership task force is helping me to watch the news carefully, listen to the guidance of our Governor, local authorities, Bishop and District Superintendent, and watch the rates of spread. I don’t know when we will be back together, but we are committed to leading our church through a safe return. Until that day, we continue to be the church, joining our prayers, gifts, service and witness to build God’s kindom. We remain, Together in Christ….Committed to Serve.
Be well. Peace,
Heather
Greetings Church,
With apologies for the irregular communications in these irregular times, here’s some news, notes, and prayer requests for the days ahead. Thank you to all who have sent contributions to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. Your gifts have been used to buy groceries for families in our community. Thank you to all who have mailed your Easter offerings, Pledge Gifts, Tithes and Offerings to the church. Thank you to everyone who has used on-line banking. Your generosity is making a difference.
We continue to pay our staff to lead vibrant mission and ministry and to tend to the administration of our church. We continue to offer weekly worship, Bible Study, Youth Group and prayer. Our building is closed, but our church is open for mission and ministry.
Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness! And remember, we’re all in this together. If you cannot meet your pledge right now, or this year, let us know. Call or email Jane Gray, office@umcchurches.org. We realize so much is different right now. Grace abounds. Remember, we’re all in this together. (That repetition is on purpose. It’s so important it’s worth saying twice.)
If you need groceries, let me know. If you need to talk or prayer, give me a call. If you want a list of people to call, or to send cards to, let me know. I’ve got a list of volunteers willing to pick up groceries. I’ve got a list of people willing to reach out by phone or mail. We are in this together, supporting one another with love and faithfulness, being the church.

Opportunities to Serve: Help serve our neighbors by packing bag lunches for the Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen.
For May, we will again be dropping off prepared bagged lunches and the Salvation Army will take care of distribution. We’re looking for six volunteers to make 10 bag lunches (total of 60 lunches needed.)
1 bag lunch= 2 sandwiches, juice box or something to drink, and fruit and/or dessert (brownies are very popular). Sandwiches must be wrapped individually.
Please place in small paper bag and label the outside of the bag with the type of sandwich inside. Condiments are provided at the Salvation Army.
Drop off Tuesday, May 5: UMC Osterville parking lot (not inside the church), 57 Pond St, 9:50-10:10am,or the Salvation Army no later than 10:30.
Please call Gail Bennett 508-420-7978 to let her know you’re willing to make bagged lunches and where you would like to drop them off. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
The Salvation Army relies on the generosity of our community to feed our vulnerable neighbors. If you have any questions please call Gail.
Support our friends at CHAMP homes who are experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 among residents.
CHAMP provides a faith-based transitional residential program for disabled adults and other youth who would otherwise be homeless. Adam Burnett, Executive Director, suggests that cards and notes of support for the residents and staff would be very welcomed. Let’s join with the Cape Cod Council of Churches and flood them with messages of caring. Please use gloves to write, stamp, seal and mail notes to: CHAMP HOMES Friends 82 School Street #3118 Hyannis, MA 02601
Hallelujah! Our Outreach team is working to set up additional opportunities to provide lunch for those who are working so hard to care for others.
For those of you who have asked, yes, you can continue to give to this mission.
Thank you!

To better accommodate our new rhythm in isolation, here are the gatherings for this week. Join us for Sunday Worship. You can see our worship by checking our church website, or our facebook page, Sunday mornings at 9:30 am (or at your convenience anytime after 9:30 am). I’m also working to utilize zoom for a “listening party” for people who cannot see the video, to call in through zoom, so that we might listen together. Stay tuned. There will be no Prayer and Check @ 5pm on Wednesday.
Tears of Grief and Joy: A Night of Lamentation and Hope, Wednesday, April 29, 7pm
This will be a worshipful gathering, through Zoom, to share our loss, grief, worries (large and small) and be reminded that God is with us in the suffering and in the saving.
There will be time to share the things we’re missing (shopping without masks, kids going to school, regular schedules) and the things we’re grieving (loss of loved one and a sense of peace).
We’ll lift up our heartbreak, our frustrations, disappointments and irritations. We won’t stay in lamentation though. We’ll remind one another, in our listening, our prayer, and scripture taht God is with us as our hearts are breaking and as they are healed. God is with us.
