Saturday Tidings – The United Methodist Church

Beautiful Beloveds,

When you look in the mirror, who do you see? Do you see God’s beautiful beloved? Or do you see all the things you are not, all the things you think you should be, all that you used to be? What do you think God sees?

We began our worship series, “Beguiled by Beauty,” in the weird and wacky book of Ezekiel. I’m still hoping you’ll read it and all it’s wackiness. Then we moved to the Psalms, songs and poetry capturing every emotion. This week, we hear just a little of the love letter that is Song of Songs. Check it out, it’s a book of love, as beloved calls to beloved, “Look at you, how beautiful!” It’s one of those books you can read again and again, and it’s different every time. It is a love letter from God, to God’s people. At weddings you may have heard some verses from this steamy letter between lovers. And now, in the midst of the COVID crisis and the pandemic of racism, it is an intimate and tender reminder that you are God’s beautiful beloved, as is everybody else.
