Saturday Tidings

Greetings Church,

Yesterday, I did my first virtual children’s time, sending the children of our church a short video from me, and reading the book, “The Invisible String,” by Patrice Karst.   If your child didn’t get it, please let me know.   If you don’t know the sweet book, you can hear and read it here.  It tells a story of a mom comforting her children by telling them of how we’re all “connected by a very special String made of love…Even though you can’t see it with your eyes, you can feel it with your heat and know that you are always connected to everyone you love.”  Connected by love, across time and space.

Opportunties to Learn and Serve

A hero for A Hero” Update: Thanks to your generosity, our lunch program for Cape Cod Hospital has expanded!  Our Outreach Team has reached out to local nursing care facilities to find the best way to show our love and support for their hard work and dedication.  We’re providing lunch to one facility and healthy snacks to another, per their request and exploring other ways to show our love. We are also collecting cards at the church to be delivered to residents at local care facilities.  Please label them “Resident” and add your greetings and words of encouragement.  Since we do not have specific names for the recipients, please use a general greeting: Dear friend, Dear Resident, Thinking of you, etc. Please feel free to sign your name, along with our church name, or just simply the church name. If your child makes a card or draws a picture, please consider including their age.  Please drop cards and drawings off at the church in the black weighted trash can that is clearly labeled in front of the church.  If you would like someone to pick up your cards, please call the Outreach Co-Chairs, Patty & Allen Morell.  Please use gloves to write, stamp, and seal with water or scotch tape, not saliva.  No stamps necessary, they will be hand delivered.

Contact Tree Shuffle: As we enter another month of separation, we’re taking another look at our contact tree.  If you’d like to connect with one, two, or ten church members a week, let Pastor Heather know and she’ll add you to our list of callers, text-ers, and email-ers. Festival of Homiletics is Free this year!

Virtual Festival of Homiletics, on-line May 18-22.  You’ll find great preachers, fabulous workshops, and interesting music to close out the day each day. This year’s theme is  Preaching a New Earth: Climate and Creation[/dropshadowbox]

Re-entry On My Mind: 

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Our leadership team continues to monitor the guidance from our Bishop, Civic Authorities, and other experts.  Our Bishop has asked all United Methodists in New England to “refrain from meeting in person for worship, retreats, Bible studies, and any other in-person church-related gatherings through at least Pentecost Sunday, May 31, 2020.”   Our on-line worship will continue indefinitely.  Our re-entry, once it is allowed by religious and civic authorities will be slow, and meticulously thought out.  We do so out of love and faithfulness, not fear.  We are committed to putting your health and wellness, and the health of our community, first.  We are discussing creative ways to gather that honor the needs of our congregation while keeping us all safe and healthy. [/dropshadowbox]
