We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today.
We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.
In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there “is” such a thing as being too late.
This is no time for apathy or complacency.
This is a time for vigorous and positive action.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Wednesday, April 22 is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Hundreds of events were planned around the world but were either canceled or are now virtual because of the current pandemic. Faith communities are a vital part of these celebrations to demonstrate our love of the sacred earth that God created. Here are several resources that are full of information, stories and resources about how people of faith are celebrating and joining together in this time of concern.
Creation Justice stresses the fierce urgency of now and addresses how faith communities can ” respond to Christ’s call to right relationship with creation, and equip our communities to protect, restore, and more rightly share God’s creation.”
Wonderful resources offering numerous ways people of faith are celebrating this Earth Day and beyond.
Through Interfaith Power & Light there are several virtual services, webinars and activities to help celebrate Earth Day and advocate for protective measures.
We pray for all human beings,
that we will be filled with a spirit of concern
for the future of our environment;
bring an end to the exploitation of
the earth’s scarce resources:
and live as responsible stewards protecting
and respecting this gift of creation God
has placed in our hands.
Amen
