September 11 is also Rally Sunday; Sunday School registration will be open
The United Methodist Church in Osterville recently got a piece of history back as it prepares for a new season.
Manufactured in the mid-1800s, the bell that once called parishioners to worship in Osterville Village was repaired and is ready to ring again at the church’s location at 57 Pond Street in Osterville.
The bell was manufactured by Jones & Company, bell founders and proprietors of the Troy Bell Foundry in New York. It was installed in the original Methodist church built in 1847 on Main Street in Osterville, and both the spire and bell were brought to the newly constructed church on Pond Street in 1969.
It has been several years since the bell has been rung, and on September 11, the bell will sound the call to worship at the 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM worship services.
“We will be ringing the bell on 9/11 to remember all those who died on that day, and also the heroes,” said Pastor John Wesley Taylor, the church’s newest pastor who took the helm on July 1 of this year.
Pastor John is the son of the late Pastor Blaine Taylor, a beloved pastor who served at the United Methodist Church in Osterville from 1886 to 1994. He is looking forward to the revival of – not just the church bell – but church membership. He said, “We want to grow the church so that all people will feel the love, joy, and peace of God. We are an open church, and we invite prayers for our revival and encourage all who would like to come to experience a church family.”
Sunday School begins on September 11 with a Rally Sunday Celebration.
