The Lord said to Joshua…” Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1: 9
Beautiful Beloveds,
Today, Veterans Day, we pause to remember and give thanks. We remember generations of soldiers who said yes when their country called. We remember women and men who left home and family to serve in our name, to protect our freedoms. We remember those who left behind the familiar and served on our behalf. May we be inspired by their self-sacrifice and honor them with gratitude and our prayers for peace. Let us dare to hope, to dream, to believe that not only is peace possible it is the will of God.
Today, we will not be able to gather together, to honor those among us who have served. And so from a distance, we say “Thank You,” and we pray that God will bless all who have served. May God bless all who serve this day: Airmen and women, Coast Guardsmen and women, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers. May God surround them in love and peace, and bring those who are far from us, home safely.
Peace,
Heather
This year, we will not be gathering at our church to observe Veterans Day. We encourage you to join one of the online observations. For example, Pastor Heather and Steven Koglin will both be participating in the Mashpee Veterans Day Observance. You can find it on Channel 99 or on the Mashpee TV YouTube Channel.
As United Methodists we promise to support the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Here are some ways you can live into those promises, this week:
Prayers:
Please pray for veterans
Veterans of World War I, and World War II.
Veterans of the Korean War, and Vietnam,
Veterans who have served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm
Veterans who have served in the War against terror…
Veterans who have served in the sky, on the sea, and on land…
Women and men, who endure hardship, separation, and sometimes loss for the sake of keeping peace and fighting for justice around the world.
Please submit prayer requests to Pastor Heather, pastorheather@umcchurches.org and 774.994.3645.
