Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
– Romans 12:17-18
Beautiful Beloveds
Today, we observe another form of “New Year,” the inauguration of a new president and vice-president. This year, like so many things, it will be different. Different because of the pandemic that continues, different because of the acts of violence on January 6. Rather than discourage, may these differences focus our attention on our highest ideals for our nation. May the events of tomorrow celebrate what is possible, and remind us of our best dreams for our neighbors: life, liberty, equality, freedom and more. Tomorrow, as every other day, may we be a people of prayer, for our leaders, our nation, and God’s whole beloved world.
Peace,
Heather
As United Methodists we promise to support the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Here are some ways you can live into those promises, this week:
Prayers:
Please pray for President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris as they step into their new roles and lead our nation. Pray for every child who is watching, and thinking, “maybe some day it will be me.” May everyone who is involved in the inauguration be safe and healthy. May God give wisdom to all our leaders.
Please pray for the family of Lois Engleman. Lois died on Christmas Eve 2020. Her memorial/celebration of life will be on February 5, at 5pm, via Zoom. The link is below. Her family, will be leading the memorial from their homes and those who knew her will have a time to unmute if they wish to share a word of tribute or a story, or they can simply listen.
Here also is a link to her obituary :

Gifts
What about pledge cards and envelopes? We’ll be handing out pledge cards later this month, and the envelopes are in the church office. If you want yours sooner, rather than later, please contact Jane Gray in the office, 508.428.2811 or office@umcchurches.org to set up a time to pick yours up.
Service and Witness
CHANGE for Miracle Kitchen: The number of participants at Miracle kitchen for lunch has diminished. We will now be making sandwich lunches for only 40 people. Each volunteer will be making 16 sandwiches instead of the 20 made in the past. They should also include a beverage, dessert and fruit for 8 people. Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions please call Gail Bennett at 508-420-7978.
January Food Collection for Local Food Pantries: We are collecting breakfast foods such as cereal, pancake mix, pancake syrup, oatmeal, pop tarts, jelly, peanut butter, canned fruit, etc. The homeless are also very much in need of new underwear and socks. Please put your non-perishable donated items in the large black labeled container to the right of the church front door.
A BIG THANK YOU Osterville Church Family for donating mittens and gloves (even in addition to the ones for the Miracle Kitchen Guests) and hanging them on the “Mitten Tree” last month. Thirty-two pairs were donated to the Hyannis Baptist Church Food Pantry for their clients. This pantry was truly overjoyed to receive and distribute them!
