Together in Christ—We Worship
Sunday services are at 8:30 A.M. & 10:00 A.M. in the Sanctuary.
Worship with Us! Everyone is welcome!
Come to SONSHINE Sunday- this Sunday, February 12th.
All are invited to wear brightly colored clothing as we will be celebrating how the love of Jesus shines upon us and through us to the world.
As Jesus says in Matthew 5:14-16….
In the middle of winter, we are drawn to the light of the sun and in the same way we are drawn to the light of Jesus to warm our souls. Come this Sunday in a Hawaiian shirt or your brightest clothes to symbolize how we are called to reflect the son of God- Jesus- and His love. There will be special music and a special fellowship time following the service. Invite a neighbor or friend to join with you in worship.
Sermon: Let God’s Light Shine!
Scripture: Matthew 5:13-20
Submit Prayer Requests: Please submit prayer requests here or call Pastor John 508-451-5858 or MaryAnne Farley (774) 487-0719.
We also are praying for all the people in Turkey who are facing great loss and death due to the earthquake. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is present in Turkey and you may support relief efforts by giving a donation to Osterville UMC and putting UMCOR-Turkey in the memo. 100% of your gift will go to help those in need in Turkey. https://umcmission.org/umcor-
Special Offering this Sunday: We will be having a special offering for the Buffalo churches that were damaged by pipes freezing. Pastor Dave Nicol will be giving a short video of the need. Dave grew up at Osterville UMC and is pastor of Hamburg UMC in Buffalo.
Ash Wesnesday: Attend our Ash Wednesday soup and bread dinner and service- February 22nd. Dinner is at 5:30pm and our Ash Wednesday Service is at 7pm. It is a potluck soup and bread dinner so please sign up at church or call or email Jane at the office to share what you will be bringing. Let us begin the season of Lent together. All welcome. office@umcchurches.org 508 428 2811
Our Vintage Stained-Glass Window is Bright and Shinning Again!!! Thanks to our Incredible Lend-a-Hand Crew this window from the old church in Osterville is showing its beauty again. They worked for weeks to get the back lighting restored to accentuate the lovely stained-glass design. What was thought impossible has been accomplished.
Seeking Greeters and Ushers: Anyone interested in speaking, greeting or ushering, please give Mary Ann Farley a call. (774) 487-0719. If you are interested in singing in our choir group, please call Daniel Shinabarger at 857-919-0238.
Book Study Group concluded this past Thursday reading “The Walk” by Adam Hamilton. It has been wonderful that so many are reading this outstanding book.
Bible Study continues on Thursday mornings at 10am in the solarium. We are studying the scripture that will be read the following Sunday. Come when you can. Don’t worry about signing up. Don’t worry about having any experience studying the Word. Bring a friend. All are welcome.
The Church Book Group will meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month. You are invited, bring a book to share, and enjoy some books by Black authors, men or women. The next meeting will be on Tuesday Feb. 21 at 10:30 am in church parlor.
Dinner at Amari’s February 17 – Our Welcoming Committee is organizing an opportunity for our church family to go out to dinner at Amari restaurant in E. Sandwich. Just come at 6PM on Friday, February 17. Amari will arrange for us to be seated together. There is a sign-up sheet in the solarium for this event so that we can tell them how many are coming. There is plenty of parking and there will be separate checks. We used to call these dinners “Cure for the Winter Blues”. It’s fun to get together during the winter when we may be more shut in than usual. Newcomers are welcome to join us as we get to know one another better.
Thank You Notes
With humility, I send my thanks and appreciation for all the cards and notes that I received during my devastating COVOID-19 illness that covered my birthday, Thanksgiving, parts of Christmas, and January too. I love Christ and I love all of you always. Thank You, Lois

Helping Two UMC Churches in Buffalo, NY Don’t Forget about our Help for the churches in Buffalo. You may leave a check in the office, send one by mail or go online and make your donation electronically. Please indicate that it is for the Buffalo churches.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting in the parlor the 1st Sunday of each month between services from 9:30 – 10:00. The dates are Sunday February 5th, Sunday March 5th, Sunday April 2nd, Sunday May 7th and Sunday June 4th
Buy BIC cards. BIC cards are gift cards to local supermarkets like Shaws and Stop & Shop, Dunkin Donuts, and many more. When you buy a gift card the company on the card donates a percentage to help people in need of housing assistance. You get a card of full value and someone in needs gets a helping hand through the generosity of the retailers participating. Cards are sold in the solarium every Sunday. We accept checks or cash.
Our Holiday Fair was a great success, and we are already making preparations for the next one. One way you can help is by donating jewelry to be sold in our jewelry room. There will be a box on the kiosk in the solarium every week for you to leave your jewelry that you don’t wear anymore. If you have something of greater value than just ordinary jewelry, please give it to Heather Wolfe or bring it to the church office.
Outreach February Collection Many thanks Church Family, for your generous donations of individual sized personal items for our local neighbors! We are sorry, but we cannot accept any perishable foods including bread related items. Additionally A Baby Center is in great need of new or gently used children’s and women’s shoes – kids up to Age 6; and children’s clothing – sizes Infant to Size 6. Lend-a-Hand Tasks Completed in December 2022
- Major Leaf and branch cleanup was finished on January 2, 2023, using 4 backpack leaf blowers and 6 team members.
- The Summer Chapel area with winterized.
- The interior door repair project for the sanctuary, north hallway and choir room was completed saving several $1000. Doors to be checked in the spring.
- Moved remaining items from the Hembree’s house to the Annex for future Yard sales.
- Removed dead alberta spruce from the back wall of the parking lot.
- Covered Air Conditioner at Rainbow’s
- Major re-lamping of the Sanctuary has been completed. All the lights have been replaced with LED bulbs. Getting this completed by our committee has saved the church a ton of $$$.
We are going to post opportunities to help on the Make a Difference bulletin board in the solarium. David Eaton has compiled a list of things we can do to help the Lend a Hand group. These men and women meet every Monday from 9 to noon at the church to help us keep our buildings and properties in tip top shape. You don’t have to have any special skills to join them. Take a look at the list. If there is something you can do, it doesn’t have to be done on Monday morning if your schedule doesn’t fit that day. Speak to David Eaton or Heather Wolfe about other times the church is open or ways you would like to help.
A MILLION THANKS TO OUR GENEROUS CHURCH FAMILY! The Outreach Committee and our local veteran, homeless, and sheltered neighbors; plus local schools, and Sierra Leone neighbors; are gobsmacked by the radical generosity in 2022 of our church family’s prayers, presence, servant hearts, donations of diapers, food, toiletries, school supplies, sandwiches, salads, desserts, warm clothing, and gifts. Also donations for gift cards at Christmas! Thousands of dollars were collected for CHAMP Homes, Safe Harbor Women’s Shelter, A Baby Center, Vinfen Men’s Group Home, the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, and two UMC Missions in Sierra Leone: the Child Reintegration Centre and Mercy Hospital! To God be the Glory, great things He hath done through UMC of Osterville!

To continue with our pledge theme, “I Can Make a Difference” you will notice on the MAKING A DIFFERENCE bulletin board in the solarium, a list of projects that need to be done in our church.
This list was put together by Dave Eaton, our Lend-a-Hand leader. By helping with one of these projects you will be making a difference in our church.
If you have any questions on any of these projects or how you can help, please contact either Dave Eaton or Heather Wolfe.
Remember our pledge campaign bible scripture from Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me, as you pray fully consider ways you can continue to help our church.
Thank you in advance for making a difference! – The Stewardship Team
