Beautiful Beloveds
This Sunday, we begin a new two-week series on gratitude. Tomorrow, we consider grief and gratitude, unlikely companions. Next week, we practice, practice, practice. I invite you to consider submitting a picture or video of your gratitude to share in our virtual worship. It can be as simple as a picture of something or someone for whom you are grateful. Deadline: 12pm November 19.
Peace,
Heather

Enjoy a homily by John Greene: Send Me
Isaiah looked around at his country and he was not happy with what he saw. He saw a country wracked with corrupt officials, with self-righteous religious leaders, and a king who felt he needed to ally his kingdom with outside powers. Isaiah saw his people drifting further away from their God as they sought wealth, fame, and self-indulgence. He saw that they made sacrifices ritually without repentance. Worst of all he saw those with wealth ignore the needy and the poor.
In a dream vision Isaiah heard God asking for someone to preach to the people of Israel, to warn them of their error, to tell them of his disappointment in their actions. “Whom shall I send?” called God. Isaiah, his heart filled with purpose and passion, called out, “Here I am Lord, send me!”
Is God looking around at us, seeing where we have fallen short in returning His love? Is he hoping that we can respond to the Beatitudes and turn the world upside down? Is He calling out to send someone to remind his children that they should love their neighbors?
If He is calling out then what is keeping us from responding and shouting, “Here I am, Lord! Send me!
Isaiah 29:14 “I will do great things with these people”
John Greene

Let’s Learn Together: Reading the Gospel of Matthew
Join us as we read, wrestle with and study God’s word. We’re working our way through Matthew both Wednesday evenings at 5pm at the church, or Thursday mornings via Zoom. It’s not too late to join in. We’re right in the middle of the encouraging, challenging, provoking, and inspirational Sermon on the Mount (Matthew ch 5-7). Join us next week to see what Jesus says next!

Green Tip: Decorate with nature
In 2009, consulting firm Ellipsos determined that “the artificial [Christmas] tree, which has a life span of six years, has three times more impact on climate change and resource depletion than the natural tree” Instead of petroleum-based plastic or synthetic decorations, adorn your table with natural, homemade festive decor. The fall season offers pumpkins, pinecones, and colorful leaves that can be used as biodegradable decorations. — Climate Caretakers
